Agnese Pacciardi on the language of border externalisation in the EU-Turkey deal

Agnese Pacciardi has co-authored a research article on the the language of border externalisation processes by examining the episteme that stands as the basis of policy documents on the EU–Turkey agreement.

The article shows how the knowledge produced through the documents has effects on both the mainstream discourse on migration and on the legitimisation of violent border management practices. Specifically, the article shows how this language promotes a discourse on migrants that strictly categorises territories and peoples, establishes geographies of control and hierarchies of deserving and undeserving subjects according to Eurocentric ideas on mobility.
