25/9 Psychoanalysis and politics

Political Theory Research Group: Psychoanalysis and Politics | Svetnet (lu.se)

13.1514.30 Ed222a

Already on the 25th of September we have a joint session with the Political Psychology research group on the topic of ‘Psychoanalysis and Politics’. We are visited by two prominent scholars for a panel discussion on what psychoanalysis can help us see and understand in relation to politics.

Chairs: Catarina Kinnvall and Niklas Altermark

Sara Edenheim is an Associate Professor in History and Senior Lecturer at Umeå Centre for Gender Studies. Her research engages feminist theory and critical policy analysis in understanding the development of the welfare state and its on-going changes. In addition, she also has an interest in the philosophy of history and has done research on the epistemology of the archive as a place and idea within Western thinking. Sara has engaged with theoretical concepts such as abjection and interpellation and written about desire and the use of psychoanalytical concepts as a method.

Per-Anders Svärd is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Humanities, Education and Social Science at Örebro University. His research focuses on the ideological constructions of the human-animal relationship. Per-Anders’ interests include animal rights philosophy and political theory, particularly with a focus on Marxist, post-structuralist and psychoanalytical social theory. Among other things, Per-Anders has engaged the Lacanian concept of fantasy to understand the reproduction of Speciesism.

3/11 Social constructions and materiality

Political Theory Research Group: Social Constructions and Materiality | Svetnet (lu.se)

13.1514.30 Ed367

For this seminar, we dive into the concept of ‘real abstractions’ to better understand how social constructions relate to the material and institutional world. To assess the usefulness of this concept, we focus on ‘nature’ as a point of entry.

Readings will be announced in due time.
