Patrick Nitzschner’s dissertation project engages with the concept and practice of democratic defence in Europe and beyond. Its perspective is informed by the experiences of Critical Theorists in US-American exile and their subsequent interventions into post-fascist German politics after the Institute for Social Research returned to Frankfurt. Simultaneously, Patrick’s work engages with notions of criticality in epistemology and methodology, particularly in the fields of International Relations and research on prejudice. He has previously worked on post-positivism as an anti-traditionalist tradition in IR and on the concept of Europe in Historical International Relations.
