Jesper Svensson är sedan mars 2023 Mistra Biopath Post-doc vid Lunds universitet. Några av de frågor som Jesper försöker svara på i sin nuvarande forskning:
- Äganderättens betydelse för naturvård och välstånd?
- Vilka policyegenskaper är acceptabla bland svenska skogsägare, och vad skulle priset för bevarandeåtgärder för biologisk mångfald bli?
- Under vilka förutsättningar kan vi använda marknadsbaserade instrument för att tackla miljöproblem utan att bli missbrukade av marknader?
Jesper har 10 års erfarenhet av att arbeta med vatten- utvecklingsutmaningar i en rad länder, bl.a. Kina, Kanada, Indien, Mongoliet och USA. Innan han flyttade till Lund tog Jesper sin doktorsexamen från Oxford University's Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment 2022.
Hans avhandling "Två Händer, Flera Fingeravtryck" bygger vidare på Elinor Ostrom's (2009 års Nobelpristagare i ekonomi) arbete om institutionell diversitet genom att visa hur staten och marknaden (två händer) formar implementeringen av handel med vattenrättigheter (flera fingeravtryck) i olika delar av Kina. Han teoretiserade de villkor under vilket vattenmarknader konfigureras i Kina när det gäller äganderättigheter, styrningsarrangemang och infrastruktur över tid och rum. Med utgångspunkt från semistrukturerade intervjuer, historiska arkiv och kvalitativa och kvantitativa mått på handel med vattenrättigheter förlitade han sig på en kombination av fallstudie och jämförande analys.
