We conducted the study in close collaboration with the Swedish election authorities and show that the infrastructure for voting and whether voters can select the ballots behind a closed screen mattered a lot for voters’ perceived integrity. Participants were recruited on-the-go in central Stockholm and voted in an election that resembled a real election, under three different secrecy conditions to which participants were randomly assigned. Survey questionnaires with closed as well as free text answers are analyzed in the study.
