Through an increasing demand for, and dependence on, various forms of evaluative practices in the public sector, the editors have seen the emergence of what has been called an audit and evaluation society. How these "societies", and practices associated with them, are related to different forms of power is explored in this special issue.
The issue consists of 6 peer-review articles, 6 reflections written by people with long experience of evaluation, and an introduction that summarizes the relationship between power and evaluation and introduces the articles and the authors.
