Current research
Karl Holmberg's research revolves around the political economy and geopolitics of plastics. This involves but are not excluded to research on interests and actors throughout the plastic life cycle, especially focusing on the petrochemical production and the culture and practices that shape the role of plastics in our society. Additional aspects that are being taken into account are sociotechnical systems, economic history, carbon lock-ins, path dependency, and incumbency concerning the petroplastic complex.
