Summary, in English

The azure European flag with the 12 golden stars is a well-known symbol of 'European unity', just as many will recognize myths and tales of how the European Union (EU) is our guarantor of peace and prosperity in Europe.

But how are symbols and myths about the EU spread and perceived? How do the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers affect the spread and perception of EU symbols and myths?

And finally, how is European integration affected by the spread and use of symbols and myths about the EU?

These otherwise overlooked questions are central to a major research project launched by the authors and funded by the Research Council Society and Business.
