Current research and teaching
I began my academic career by researching the distinction between the Left and the Right in politics. In my PhD dissertation, I developed a theory (building on previous work) of the left-right dimension of politics, arguing that the fundamental difference between the Left and the Right (across societies and over time) is that the Left is less willing to accept inequality than the Right. Since then, my research has shifted toward democratic responsiveness and party politics. In my current position, I study party positioning in relation to the emerging transnational cleavage, as part of a research project led by Prof. Jonathan Polk.
