CMES Seminar: What is going to happen in Gaza?
What is going to happen in Gaza – and what does it mean for the wider region? In this CMES seminar, journalist Cecilia Uddén offers a timely and in-depth perspective on one of today’s most pressing conflicts.
In this timely seminar, journalist and Middle East correspondent Cecilia Uddén (Sveriges Radio), author of the recent book Allt har en smak av aska, reflects on the current situation in the region, beginning with recent developments involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, before turning to the ongoing war in Gaza and its wider implications.
Drawing on decades of experience reporting from the Middle East, Uddén will discuss the challenges of covering Gaza today, including the restrictions facing international journalists. She will also share personal perspectives from people she has met in Gaza over the years, offering insight into everyday life under prolonged conflict.
The seminar will further address political developments, including former US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, and reflect on how Israel has changed over time — becoming, in Uddén’s view, increasingly different from the country she first encountered in the early 1990s.
Bringing together geopolitical analysis and lived experience, the talk offers a nuanced perspective on one of the most pressing and complex issues in the region today.
