Wind Masculinities: Extractive, Caste, and Nationalist Rule in Rural India. Research seminar with David Singh
How does the transition to renewable energy reshape social and political power? In this seminar, David Singh presents research on wind energy development in western India, examining how energy infrastructures intersect with caste, masculinity and Hindu nationalism.
Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in Kutch, Gujarat, he argues that India's wind energy expansion is not only a decarbonisation project but also a political process through which power is reorganised along lines of gender, caste and religion.
The seminar is based on Singh's recent article Wind Masculinities: Extractive, Caste, and Nationalist Rule in Rural India, published in Antipode.
