Tomas Bergström, doyen of our corps scientifique, will give a talk on ‘The impact of a harsher social climate on the working conditions of social scientists’. Here is a snippet:

The seminar is based on a report to the Faculty of Social Sciences mapping the problems of a growing intolerance towards research that challenges individual’s own convictions. Scientific results and methods are questioned and researchers, or even whole disciplines like Gender studies, are heavily criticized. Social media are used to orchestrate hate campaigns. Another aspect that has caught the attention of the new minister for Higher Education is a discussion of how to treat sensitive issues in teaching, using concepts like cancel culture and trigger warnings.
