SASNET Panel Discussion: "Bangladesh - Now!"
A panel discussion in collaboration with Malmö Public Libraries and Swedish PEN on the public protests and political unrest in contemporary Bangladesh.
What happens when a country faces major changes? Following a popular uprising that forced Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to flee the country, Bangladesh is facing new questions about democracy, human rights and freedom of expression. Welcome to a panel discussion with experts and journalists who give us insight into the latest events and the country's future prospects.
Panelists
- Tasneem Khalil. Malmö-based international journalist and author who has covered Bangladesh for a long time.
- Saiful Baten Tito. Asylum writer in Gothenburg and engaged in issues of freedom of expression and exile.
- Isha Dubey. Assistant Professor at IIIT Hyderabad, specializing in the political and social landscape of South Asia.
The moderator for the evening is Helena Thorfinn, journalist, and writer, with extensive experience in issues surrounding Bangladesh.
The event is part of the library's 'Room for Democracy' initiative and aims to create a platform to discuss global challenges that affect our understanding of democracy, freedom and human rights. It highlights the importance of freedom of expression and the role that media, research and culture play in creating transparency and driving societal change.
Come and participate in an engaging evening where we reflect together on our common future and the importance of defending the core values of democracy.
The arrangement is a collaboration between Malmö City Library, Swedish South Asian Studies Network (SASNET) at Lund University and Swedish PEN-Skåne.
