SUMMARY:CMES seminar: The New Middle East: Bloc Politics and Geoeconomics
DESCRIPTION:Kontakt: lisa.strombom@svet.lu.se\n\nAt a moment when the Middl
e East is more violent than in decades\, the region appears to be splittin
g into two rival blocs. The Middle East is of course no stranger to bloc p
olitics\; it dominated much of the 1960s and 2010s. What is different this
time is the apparent lack of ideology. Alliances as well as rivalries pri
marily turn on a transactional\, economic logic. Alliances seem largely to
congeal around shared economic and security interests at a moment when se
curity and economics themselves overlap to an unprecedented degree. And ge
opolitical rivalries seem mostly born out of economic competition. Drawing
on utopian trade corridor planning and Red Sea proxy wars\, this talk off
ers a tentative outline of a new governing logic in Middle East conflict\,
suggesting that it reveals something about the world order about to repla
ce American unipolarity.Coffee\, tea and pastries will be served after the
seminar.Everyone is warmly welcome!&nbsp\;\n\nMer information om händels
