SUMMARY:CMES Seminar: Frictional Humanitarian Homebuilding - Civil Society
Actors’ Navigation in the Politics of International Aid
DESCRIPTION:Kontakt: info@cme.lu.se\n\nDuring the seminar there will be a p
resentation and discussion of a forthcoming article by Nina Gren\, Elsa He
dling\, Lisa Strömbom\, and Maria Småberg (PI)\, titled “Friction and
Humanitarian Repertoires Across Time and Place: Swedish Civil Society Acto
rs in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.”The paper introduces a conce
ptual framework for understanding how civil society actors navigate humani
tarian work in politically volatile and contested settings. Drawing on Ann
a Tsing’s notion of friction\, the authors explore how Swedish organizat
ions have engaged in humanitarian homebuilding in the occupied Palestinian
territories\, focusing on two historical moments: the aftermath of the 19
 67 war and the post-October 7\, 2023 context.&nbsp\;The seminar will refle
ct on how friction shapes humanitarian agency and repertoires over time\,
offering insights into the relational and resource-dependent nature of civ
il society engagement in conflict zones. If you would like to receive a dra
ft (PDF) of the article to be presented\, please send an email to maria.sm
aberg@hist.lu.se. The draft will be shared a few days before the seminar.\
