Akshay Mangla: “Making Bureaucracy Work: Norms, Education and Public Service Delivery in Rural India”

SASNET and the Department of Political Science (Politics and Development Studies and Public Administration Theory Research Groups) invite you to a seminar with Akshay Mangla.
About the seminar
In this seminar, Akshay Mangla, Associate Professor in International Business, at Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, will present and answer questions concerning his latest book: Making Bureaucracy Work: Norms, Education and Public Service Delivery in Rural India. New York: Cambridge University Press (2022).
Book description
In Making Bureaucracy Work, Mangla investigates why and how state agencies implement universal primary education programs (more or less) effectively in India. It advances a theoretical framework centered on informal bureaucratic norms, the unwritten rules of the game that guide the behavior of state officials and their relations with citizens and non-state agencies. The findings are based on more than two years of subnational comparative field research in four Indian states.
The introductory chapter of the book is available for seminar participants. Please contact Therese Mortensen (therese [dot] mortensen [at] sasnet [dot] lu [dot] se) if you would like a copy of the chapter.
