I am a researcher interested in the politics of peackeeping, security force assistance and the gender and the military. I have been conducting extensive field work in conflict affected states in Africa and published on topics related to the post-conflict challenges.

More recently, I am focusing on the military institution and its internal and external relations and challenges in the aftermath of conflict.

I am a member in Folke Bernadotte Academy’s Research Groups, a Global Fellow at PRIO and the Editor in Chief for International Peacekeeping.

Ongoing research projects

  • I am part of PRIO’s research  project: Security Force Assistance in Fragile States where I am focusing on Sub-saharan Africa, particularly Niger, Burundi and Rwanda.
  • From 2020 I am conducting a new Swedish Research Council research project with lisa Strömbom from Lund University about SSR and Gender in Liberia and Mali.
  • Together with Jonathan Fisher from Birmingham University we are conducting research for a monograph on African Peacekeeping which is to be published in 2020 with Cambridge University Press.
