After the public defence: next steps
The period following the public defence involves a few practical and administrative steps. Here you will find information about closing procedures, degree certificates, career planning, and support for applying for research funding.
Administrative procedures
When your employment as a doctoral student ends, certain equipment must be returned, such as your computer and LU card. Contact Helen Fogelin for information about what needs to be returned and to ensure that all administrative matters are completed correctly.

Remember to apply for your degree certificate after your public defence.

Final meeting with the Director of Doctoral Studies
After the public defence, you will be offered a final meeting with the Director of Doctoral Studies. The meeting provides an opportunity to discuss your plans after completing your doctoral studies and to share your experiences and reflections on the doctoral education programme.
Research funding and future career opportunities
If you are planning to continue in academia, it is important to familiarise yourself with research funding opportunities at an early stage. Lund University's staff website contains information about research funders, funding opportunities and support for preparing applications.
Please note that all research funding applications must be approved and signed by the Head of Department before being submitted. You should therefore contact the Head of Department well in advance of starting work on an application.
