Correction and reassessment of grades
If you believe that a grading decision contains an obvious error, you may request a correction or reassessment. This page explains the rules that apply, how the process works, and how to submit a request for review.
When can a grade be corrected or reassessed?
Grades are awarded by the examiner following a careful assessment of your performance. A grading decision cannot be appealed. However, under the Higher Education Ordinance, a grade may be corrected or reassessed in certain circumstances.
According to Chapter 6, Section 24 of the Higher Education Ordinance, the examiner must change a grade if:
- the decision is clearly incorrect;
- the decision can be changed quickly and easily; and
- the change does not result in a lower grade.
What does “clearly incorrect” mean?
For a grade to be changed, there must be an obvious error in the decision. The examiner is not normally required to carry out a new or more detailed assessment of the examination, unless there are special reasons to do so.
When can a grade be reassessed?
A reassessment must be possible to carry out quickly and easily. If the matter requires further investigation or a more extensive review, the examiner is generally not obliged to reconsider the decision.
How to request a grade reassessment
If you wish to request a reassessment of a grade, you must do so in writing. Please clearly explain what you believe is incorrect and why. The examiner will consider your request and make a decision.
