Apply and prepare for your exchange studies

You apply for an exchange place through the International Office at your home university. Once you have been nominated by your home university and accepted by Lund University, you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete your application in our system.

Please make sure that you follow all deadlines and application instructions carefully. During your stay in Lund, your assigned coordinator will assist you with academic and administrative matters related to your exchange studies. Questions regarding housing are handled separately.

Application process

Applications are submitted online for each semester. Nominated students will receive a username and password by email.

Required documents

Please submit the following documents as part of your application:

• An official transcript of records in English showing all completed studies
• A list of ongoing courses (if these are not included in the transcript)

Course selection

Choose courses corresponding to 30 credits (ECTS) and provide two alternative courses for each course choice.

Before applying, make sure that your selected courses, including the alternatives, can be transferred to your degree at your home university. Course changes after the semester has started are limited and can be difficult to arrange.

If you are coming to Lund through an exchange agreement with the Department of Political Science, you must take at least 15 credits at our department. To be eligible, you normally need to have completed 30 to 60 credits in Political Science at your home university.

Course changes

You may apply to change courses on Registration Day. However, as courses begin on the first day of the semester, there is usually very little time to have alternative courses approved by your home university. We therefore strongly recommend discussing your course choices and alternatives with your home university before arriving in Lund.

You can apply for the SUSA Swedish language course and the mentor programme as part of your application.

Apply for housing

Housing in Lund is in high demand, particularly at the start of each semester. Lund University offers a limited number of accommodation places for exchange students through LU Accommodation. While every effort is made to assist incoming students, accommodation cannot be guaranteed for everyone.

Autumn semester: 1 April to 15 April
Spring semester: 1 October to 15 October

It is important to apply before the deadline. Please note that applying on time does not guarantee accommodation through LU Accommodation. We strongly recommend exploring other housing options before arriving in Lund.
