ace: Colombia\, Northern Ireland and Israel-PalestineInvestigates memory i
nitiatives in three of the world’s hardest to solve conflicts and how th

a framework for conflict transformationIn-depth case studies from Colombi

emory politics in zones of protracted conflictAgonistic memory dialogues a
s potential site for conflict transformationThis is a book about the power
of memory in fractured societies and initiatives that resist pressures to
simplify history. It traces the intricate pathways of local dialogue init
iatives in three of the world's most emotionally charged conflicts: Colomb
ia\, Israel-Palestine\, and Northern Ireland.There\, the past is always co
ntested terrain—it is present\, alive and deeply political. The book dra
ws on agonistic peace theory\, which proposes continued contestation\, dis
cussion and disagreement - in non-violent\, constructive forms - as the mo
st productive way to transform violent conflicts.Focusing on how local org
anisations can work to facilitate dialogue about conflict memory\, the ana
lyses rely on interview-based case studies where organisations working on
bringing people together to juxtapose their memories of these conflicts ar
e probed. The results underline that safeguarding dialogue spaces\, stimul
ating counter-hegemonic forces and the circulation of memory between memor
yscapes at different scales are crucial enabling factors for successful ag
onistic memory work.Open access: Agonistic Memory and Peace: Colombia\, No
