Current research and teaching

Bibi is currently researching how the gendered relationships between humans and remotely controlled/autonomous military technology (drones in particular) are constructed at defence trade shows and by military members who use this technology. Drawing on International Relations, feminist theory, science and technology studies, and security studies, this research engages with how masculinity and militarism shape and are shaped by how we relate to technology. Bibi is also interested in critical military studies more broadly, and has experience researching issues of diversity and force structure in militaries as well training on gender, diversity, and sexual misconduct in militaries and international organizations.

Introduction

Bibi previously worked at the Canadian Centre for International and Defence Policy, holds two MAs from Queen’s University in Canada in Sociology and Political Science, and is generally interested in critical approaches to military technology.
