Bäck on parliamentary debates

Who represents the party in parliamentary debates? Hanna Bäck has, together with Markus Baumann, Marc Debus and Jochen Müller, studied this question in an analysis of parliamentary debates in six European countries.

The results of their analysis suggest the party leadership restricts floor access to a small number of representatives, especially before an election, in order to maintain the “party brand”.

The researchers write more about their results in the article “The Unequal Distribution of Speaking Time in Parliamentary Party Groups”, which was recently published in the journal Legislative Studies Quarterly.
