Bäck and Altermark on radicalization

What influences the likelihood that an individual joins a radical group? Hanna Bäck and Niklas Altermark have, together with Emma Bäck and Holly Knapton, studied this question in an experimental study.

The results show that when experiencing social exclusion, highly rejection sensitive individuals tend to adapt to the radical group’s opinions

The researchers write more about their results in the article “The Quest for Significance: Attitude Adaption to a Radical Group Following Social Exclusion”, which was recently published in the journal International Journal of Developmental Science.
