Annika Björkdahl and Sofia Cognini on Italian right-wing leaders' anti-gender messages

Annika Björkdahl and Sofia Cognini have published the article “Anti-genderism in 280 characters: A study of Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni’s online discourse” in Party Politics.

The authors analyze the Italian right-wing party leaders’ online discourse on Twitter/X to spread anti-genderism and finds that their tweets and find three main tactics: defending the “traditional family,” whataboutism, and femonationalism. By linking language and power, the study sheds light on how anti-gender politics works in Italy today.
