Current research and teaching:

My research is primarily in democratic theory. I am interested in how to legitimately respond to far-right parties and study populism and militant democracy in this respect. I also examine how to make representation more equal, for example through compulsory voting and the use of sortition. Other interests include the conceptual history of voting rights, parliamentarism and rhetoric. My material comes from ancient democracy, 19th and 20th century political thought and contemporary political theory, but also from empirical case-studies. 

I have taught courses in democratic theory, political ideologies, conceptual history and aspects of comparative politics. I am happy to supervise projects in any area of political theory, history of political thought and discourse analysis.

Anthoula Malkopoulou joined Lund in 2020 as an expert in political theory. Before that, she worked at Uppsala University, and held fellowships at Princeton University and at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study. She graduated in 2011 from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
