Drawing on an experimental design, the article explores the framing impact of metaphors and uses the basic income policy as context for the analysis - hereby nicely combining the background in linguistics and in political science of the team of authors.
They study the opinion formation process of individuals and show that even light variations in a (metaphorical) text are able to influence the formation of opinions on a given issue.
The authors highlight the fact that the usage of metaphors in a public debate is influential to the outcome of the debate. Policy makers and journalists might thus pay particular attention to their choice of metaphors.
