Introduction and group members
The research program in international politics within the Department is extensive and can be subdivided into six broad categories: the interplay between domestic and foreign policy; foreign policy decision-making focusing on Sweden and the other Nordic countries as well as the EU, Israel, China, the Soviet Union, and the United States; Swedish neutrality and security policy, and the use of unconventional means of foreign policy, such as the formation of international opinion; international organization and international cooperation encompassing, inter alia, international aviation, refugees, environmental protection, the AIDS problematique, and Nordic cooperation; various aspects of international bargaining and negotiation; and the effects of globalization where the future of the sovereign state, the role of other units (regions, NGOs, networks), policy diffusion, and global democracy issues are some examples of research themes. Others are global institutions, such as diplomacy and international law, and global governance.
