Green transition and co-evolution of industry and the energy system (GIST)

GIST studies how the natural resource-based industry (ENRI) can reduce its carbon emissions.
Funded by the Swedish Energy Agency

Climate policy efforts have been geared towards achieving set emissions reduction targets, while the decarbonization of key socioeconomic sectors such as ENRI has not yet been addressed.

The GIST-project focuses on ambitious long-term structural transitions of ENRIs in Sweden, by exploring mitigation options and potential governance/policy strategies. The project will address the need for greater scientific understanding of long-term transitions in industry and associated institutions, to gain more knowledge about the prospects for decarbonising basic industry. Our aim is to contribute with theory and method for the transition of ENRI and provide a basis for future governance and policy strategies.

The project is led by the Environmental and Energy Systems’ Studies at Lund Technical University. Researchers in Political Science are Roger Hildingsson and Annica Kronsell.

Publications and more details about the project can be found on the GIST-website.
