Introduktion

Karin Aggestam is associate professor in Political Science and director of Peace and Conflict Studies, Lund University, Sweden. Her research interests include hydropolitics, peacebuilding, conflict theory, diplomacy, negotiation/mediation and the Middle East. She has published in international journals, such as Millennium. Journal of International Studies, International Peacekeeping, Civil Wars, Peacebuilding, Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Mediterranean Politics, and Paradigms/Global Society. Her most recent publications are Disempowerment and marginalisation of peace NGOs (2013, with L. Strömbom), Rethinking Peacebuilding (2013 co-ed. with A. Björkdahl), Om krig och fred/On war and peace (2012, co-ed. with K. Höglund). Aggestam has been project leader and scientific coordinator of a EU-FP7 research project on just and durable peace. She has been senior associate member of the Middle East Institute at St Antony’s, Oxford University, research fellow at the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at Otago University, New Zealand,  and visiting scholar at the Department of International Relations, Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

International and national assignments

Karin Aggestam holds a number of international and national assignments, such as panel member of European Research Council (ERC); expert for the European Commission in evaluating projects and proposals in EU 6th and 7th Framework Programmes; book series co-editor on Law, Conflict and International Relations (Routledge, together with C. Lekha Sriram, L. Elliott, J. Mertus); committee member of the Danish Strategic Research Council for peace and conflict research; and deputy board member of PRIO (Norwegian Peace Research Institute Oslo). Aggestam has also been  vice-chair of the Swedish national evaluation board of higher education in Political Science, Peace and Conflict, Development and Human Rights; committee member of the Swedish Research Council (VR); and vice-president of Nordic Association of International Studies (NISA). She has been on leave from academia for assignment by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) as  head of section for research, information, external relations and senior Swedish representative of TIPH (Temporary International Presence in Hebron) in the West Bank. She is regularly invited to comment in swedish radio, tv and newspapers .

Undervisning

Karin Aggestam has taught, developed and coordinated a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses as well as new programmes in political science, international relations and peace & conflict studies. She has been teaching on several interdisciplinary courses at other departments at Lund University, such as the Department of sociology, Institute for Middle Eastern languages and the Centre of theology and religious studies. Aggestam has also been teaching yearly at Fudan University, Shanghai since 2002 and Sabanci University, Istanbul.

PhD supervision

Karin Aggestam has been supervising three doctoral students who have completed their PhD dissertations:
