Allmänt om Master of Science in European Affairs

The Master of Science (120 credits) in European Affairs, with a focus on European Politics, is a social science master’s programme and runs for four consecutive semesters. Admission to the programme is open to students possessing a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution of higher education in Political Science.


The programme provides a wide-ranging as well as an in-depth knowledge of the political aspects of European Affairs, especially regarding the EU and European integration. It also prepares you for a professional career as an administrator or decision-maker in the public and private sector at a local, regional, national or international level, as well as for further academic studies at the postgraduate level.


Courses on European governance, EU Law, EU negotiations, Europe in world political economy, and EU Common Foreign and Security Policy enhance your understanding of the politics of the European Union in a global context. To some extent, you have the option of tailoring the programme to suit your particular interests by your choice of research themes. You will complete the programme with a written master thesis, providing the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of theories, methods and argumentation.


After completion of the programme a Master’s degree is awarded in accordance with the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2006:1053). 


The MEA-programme is hosted by the Department of Political Science, where the programme has existed in a one-year version, since 1994. The Department of Political Science possesses both experienced personnel and study guidance, as well as ample teaching facilities with a well-stocked library and ICT-resources.

The programme is taught in English and the student body is international.
